This is a chilled out, multi-media soiree for cool cats, heads and freaks of all
denominations.
Film: 'Dope' (90mins). Showing times: 8:30pm and 10:15pm
Filmed in London in 1968 and recently re-discovered amongst American archives.
At its premiere at the Locarno Festival in 1968, DOPE was praised by Variety's
Gene Moskowitz as "....not just another look at the so-called drug, or hippie
scene. A rugged documentary with revealing insights into the sad, touching,
downbeat, sometimes tender drug scene." . . . 'Dope is more underground than the
underground. It's sub-underground.' -- First Provincetown International Film
Festival, '99. Liquid Sound Experiment provides the opportunity to see Dope in a
unique atmospheric London location with the blessing and support of the
film-maker Flame Schon.
Photographs by John 'Hoppy' Hopkins - Photographer, political activist,
co-founder of London's first psychedelic club (UFO)and organiser of the pivotal
14 Hour Technicolour Dream event in 1967. In addition to photographing many of
the leading artists and counter-cultural figures of the 60s (including the
Beatles, Allen Ginsberg and Marianne Faithfull) 'Hoppy' also captured 'old'
post-war London with its poverty and seedier side of life, and LSE is very
privileged to project these images which harmonise perfectly with Dope.
Poetry readings by PH7 ...mind expanding poems inspired by the devastating power
of nature and Native American Indian culture amongst other subjects that PH7
communicates and delivers with true cool and bohemian style.
Weaving it all together a psychedelic sound-scape accompanied by visual delights
provided by the Bardo Light Show. Inspired by the Joshua Light Show, the Bardo
Light Show is dedicated to creating psychedelic lighting mingling images... hand
manipulated oils ...chemical slides...and video to reflect the sub-conscious
mind and Bardo states.
