Hello again...

Hi. I introduced myself on this forum a while back, and then went a bit quiet as I got frustrated with not being able to record video mixes.

Have finally got some stuff up and running and just put together a very lo-fi but rather fun demo video mix on - ahem! - virtual dj. I know it's pants and not even dedicated vj software, but i want to be able to record video and audio easily, and i still haven't worked this out with resolume.

anyone using vjamm? it looks amazing in the right hands, but I can't get it running very well and there's not much guidance on setup on the web...

anyway, please check out my demo and offer any thoughts/tips:

The first thing that came to mind is-Why are the colours so washed out?
I don't know if it's a post pro issue or not but you should address it specially if you're going to be projecting your clips as projectors are not forgiving with this kind of issue.

The colours are quite washed out aren't they? But don't worry, I won't be hitting a projector for some time yet - I'm a total novice, currently just doodling on the home PC....

I need to meet some of you guys and learn some proper techniques!

Are the original clips like that or is it the mix?
Its good to boost the contrast and saturation of your clips, make the blacks black and the whites white, specially if you plan to project them as that will instantly make them lose contrast. If they look washed out now they'll be bleached when projected!
You can always try adjusting it in your vj software.

Thanks mowgli. I don't know if it's the original clips - and I'm using virtualdj, which isn't even vj software, frankly, so saturation and contrast are a no go.

I'm only experimenting right now + don't really know what I'm doing. I'm looking at software options, but I'll need to speak with some of you guys at the next meetup. What I REALLY wanna do is cut up stuff live with vinyl, but I don't know if anything caters to this (VJamm? Resolume?)

Not being able to record is a problem I have as well. I usually point my pocket-camera at the screen, which is not particularly great, especially as I don't usually have a tripod handy!

I guess a more basic question, with regards to the colours being washed out, is: do the colours look that washed out when you're using the software ("live") or only in the recording?

If the colours are washed out in the program, are they also washed out if you play the clips separately (in Media Player, Winamp, VLC, or whatever you use)?

Yeah, I think it's my original clips, maybe I need to tweak them in some editing software, or in post-production. But I think there's some loss of quality in simply outputting through Virtual DJ.

Can I ask another quaestion: is there any software which allows you to use timecoded vinyl to cut up audio and video? I know virtual dj can do this, but it's very basic. It seems crazy that VJamm doesn't permit the use of timecodes...
