calendar

:idea:

I know it means adding something else to the forum or linking elsewhere, but this section would be a lot more useful and a whole load easier to see whats going on if it was just a calendar that we could add our gigs to as and when we got them, that way we could see eveyone's gigs for the following week/month without looking through all the posts.

Maybe there's an online service which provides it's users with a shared calendar that they can add notes to for a particular date?? and then view each other's posts in the calendar??

I (or someone else) can create a public google calendar, and give people access to it by email address. I tried to do it just now, but Google's not working properly for some odd reason... anyway, not an idea solution, but a solution.

Yeah, but it's partially solution, because I cannot really integrate google calendar into existing forum mechanisms.

I have some idea how to sort out events parts, but pls give me some time to plan the further development ;) Meanwhile you can enjoy existing form...

i think google calendar isn't such a bad idea. it would allow me to integrate it with my own google calendar - which would be extremly usefull. but i realise not everyone is a fan of google web apps (although they should be :wink: )

google calendar is pretty good - it has fairly decent ical support too so integration with a calendar based on this server would be possible down the line.

I agree with google calendar as additional feature, but I prefer to post the information about events here. Reason for that is mainly because if we will go with post every information to google calendar, then everyone one who is interested in forum will be checking google calendar instead of news on forum. So it makes forum less usable and intersting... Already it's little bit quietly here... :wink:

My idea to solve is:
- post information about the event on forum in events topic
- post should always have title in correct format DD-MM-YY TITLE, PLACE
- after that, when information is posted and has correctly formated title the shortcut to event will appear on the sidebar, which be visible on forum index page

similar to mechanism here -> www.bibainfo.pl (i hope it will be understood, even in polish - events on the bottom right). What do you think about that?

After this will be done we can export the feed to the google calendar, Pixelpusher's facebook group, or somebody's website...

Besides of that I'm not big fan of Another Big Evil Company :wink:

yes it would be great to have events posts here - if they can feed into a listing in a block then great :) even better if they have an ical feed which people can then subscribe to in whatever calendar app they use (even m$ outlook can do ical subscriptions via a plugin..)

I didn't know that exist something like ICAL feed - seems that it's nice way to intergrate it with google calendar and other application. Thanks for that - I will get familiar with that and in free time implement it to forum
