When you say DVD's to submit what does that involve?
Mixed audio and video, only video?
Is there any payment involved?
You'll find that vj's will be wary of sending a DVD as that means that you're killing there chances of performing live as there is no guarantee that the dvd will only be played once or not duplicated.
Why not have them perform live? that's what vj's do.
There is no payment involved at the moment. We are scouting for new talent. But i run several other promotions in which i pay live VJ's to do sets in London, Berlin and Paris.
As a sort of payment we are doing the interviews in the magazine, which is a glossy international style and music magazine with a readership of 250,000 so its great exposure!
DVDs would just be looped visuals, no audio needed as they will be shown in a dance club.
We won't be using live VJ's for the first few events as we need to organise a VJ booth with the venue thats going to take some time to do.
Well you'll have to trust us on that one. We are a proffesional company and are not in the business of ripping people off, we are there, if anything, to support the small guys needed exposure.
I've been promoting night clubs for over 5 years now with great success and you can check up on me if you wish, and we can always work out a simple contract, i've got no problem with that.
but every single client without exception - one has an OBE for services to music - another has a lifetime achievement award from the Brits - that has been handed a DVD by me and promised not to use it for other purposes, has. So I no longer provide content in this manner.

You may find you'll get more interest if you ask VJs to provide a link to some of their work on youtube... you can invite the ones you like to come and have a go..
a lot of VJs are happy to work for fun, but they can be wary of handing over their life's work to anyone. Asking for DVDs may not be the best approach.
Okay guys, i've actually got enough replies now, and some cool guys are sending over some DVD's so no more e-mails now please.
But keep your eyes peeled, we are in the process of planning an epic Visuals mix-tape for the cover of the magazine!
Showcasing the best VJ's we can find and getting them to work together with images from the magazine ('remix the magazine') but also working with artists, fashion designers, performers and bands!

The myspazz is hectic. What sort of music is going to be played in the club, and where is it? I saw something about Manchester on the site, but also stuff about London.
Yeah, I'm new to this forum, so dont hold it against me, but I had to get into this discussion. I've worked for promoters who tell you you're getting paid, and then at the end of the night, there isnt any money because they have to pay security and go do their drugs. Needless to say I dont work for them again, and I work for noone for free.
Without VJs, a lot of parties are a joke, because yes, there is no party without a DJ, but without a good VJ the party looks shoddy and there is a minimum that paying customers are used to. Projectors, and experience and time all cost money, so if you're not prepared to pay and you just want to play DVDs, then why dont you subscribe to the club visual services that send DVDs, but not for free - THEY COST MONEY. Hey, I got a better idea, why dont you just not charge at the door of your club. Why dont you just do you job and promote the events at a loss. Why dont you hand your magazine out for free. Guys, seriously, wherever you are in the world, do not fall for this, you're gonna get exposure in my magazine, but give me your work for free nonsense.
I really feel inclined to swear because I guarantee you this promoter knows what they are doing. This is not an innocent mistake. Hey, bring in free VJs, then your clubgoers will see the lousy quality of the newbies you get in your club. There aren't that many VJs out there, and this attitude will alienate all of the good ones. Also, dont forget a lot of VJS are photographers or videographers, and we are used to scamming models, as well as meeting all the wannabes out there. Clubowners think they are the best scammmers, but they are really either smart honest people who pay or they quickly grow terrible reputations.
