On the subject of multi-screen presentations and shows, has anyone heard anything about Ventuz? It is designed by people who did film/tv production (there is a broadcast version), and it is rather expensive (in the thousands of dollars).

Is it just me, or is seeing the misalignments and edges of a lot of the LED displays, and even just the individual LEDs, quite annoying?
I reckon they'd look nicer with some sort of diffuser in front of them - they're usually bright enough (or too bright), so the loss in outpu shouldn't be much of a problem.
Anyhow, tt seems the best looking effects were the one that looks like an oversized "Flying Windows" logo (with the shiny squares that light up), and low-tech projection onto hanging strings.
Did every vendor have a competing soundtrack for their displays, or was there one coherent sound across the venue?

I don't clearly get what you mean... basically I think that all kind of image displayers looks bad when you look at them from small distance or from wrong angle...
The problem is with banks of lights that are supposed to be in straight lines, regularly spaced, uniform distribution, etc, but have quite obvious imperfections. LEDs are much more in your face than other types of displays, so their imperfections hit your eyeballs with more violence! It isn't a case of noticing at a small distance - it is obvious from well across the room. :o)
00:52 - non-square video hanging: nice idea, but some of the internal edges of the squares spoil it. Maybe this particular screen is a little delicate / moveable, but I'm sure the issue with the seams could be reasonably well addressed with a little more care.
02:10 - sperical-ish display - I'm sure this kind of thing is a total bitch to make anyway (and cost a bomb), so why not go to a little bit more effort to keep the spacing uniform and minimise the "gaps" between the segments?
04:14 - round LED light/display - this is a positive example; nice uniform/geometric layout.
05:28 - LED strips (with groups of 3 LEDs) - this doesn't look so bad as the groups of LEDs are not part of a "solid" block of pattern. I'm not sure if it is meant to display "colour video" (what colour were the LEDs?), or what otherwise the effect of the individual LEDs in the groups is supposed to be, so not sure if seeing the individual LEDs in this case is a positive or negative aspect - maybe a crisp point is more desirable than a diffuse light in this case. There is also the question of whether this is something that people are going to be standing near or walking past, or if it is something only seen (usually) from further away.
05:44 - side note on "AOTO LED Application Expert" - that seems to be a really unfortunate (bad?) choice of lettering in their own ad... blurred text like that isn't selling me anything! :o)
06:00 - Flying Windows Logo - I like this for some reason, and not because it reminds me ofthe Windows Logo (which is actually a reason to want to dislike it).
