guerrilla ad projections - picadilly circus

At saturday I were passing through the Picadilly Circus, and I spot some unusual projections:



Quality of the projection wasn't much more better than on photo - the "screen" itself, and environment were really bright, so projected shape wasn't really recognizable (beside of that it was circle). Around the corner I spot the big "cannon"



After coming back home I checkout thelondonnews and finally I resolved mystery - projected logo was visitlondon.com.

Seems like a guerilla advertising with projections is starting to be more and more popular... it's a pity that usually is not being done properly.

honestly.

It wouldn't hurt LCI to educate their clients.
"I know what, lets project tiny type on a black background.
even better lets project a portrait image onto a landscape building".
-- but they are just happy to take their money and so are the creatives who just need to tell their advertising masters that the approved poster is being projected.

It would make more sense to me to put this in a darkened place. The Picadilly Circus area already has a bucketload of offensive screens.

That projector looks freaky. I've never seen something like that, and therein lies the value of this reportage! :o)

Projected image was a static slide with the logo. In my opinion it was bogus indeed - that's the whole point (beside photo of cannon). I do understand the point - client pays, client want, but it's little bit sad for me that usually client = bunch of marketing ^ PR guys, which are really not aware what makes sense what's not.

Gary good example of guerilla ad which is much more accurate, is this your's one?

yeah this was 12 Projectors - 5 buildings- 2 sites
lots of money changed hands to get permission to project, some banks just said no way.

What I'd like to see on a building;

"This bank wanted too much money."

with other buildings nearby covered in pretty pictures. :o)

Meanwhile... just about what I'm looking at, I'm wondering if the bellows part of the projectors is a slide holder at the box end, and if the bellows is to do some sort of tilt/slant adjustment for perspective correction, perhaps as well as magnification (or maybe reduction because of the large distance involved).

Not that I'm likely ever to be using such a thing, but hey, you never know. :o)

sadly the bellows don't tilt.
